Dicle University was actually established with the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine in 1966 under Ankara University and the opening of the Faculty of Sciences in 1973, and it was named Diyarbakır University. In 1982, the name of Diyarbakır University was changed to Dicle University.

Dicle University, whose mission is to produce and use knowledge and to offer it to the service of humanity in a local-regional and universal context; Over the past years, it has not only become a university serving the region, but also strengthened its strength with its successes in the international arena. Today, within its body; 15 Faculties with modern structures with all the facilities that students and academicians will need from A to Z, 12 Vocational Schools with technical equipment, 4 Schools, 1 Conservatory, 4 Institutes, 30 Application and Research Centers,  Training and Research Hospital, Oncology Hospital, With the Children’s Hospital, Burn Center, the largest Heart Hospital in the Middle East, and the Emergency Traumatology Complex, which is an example for all of Turkey and was built independently of the hospital building for the first time, it has become a university with international competence in scientific and academic terms.
