Istanbul Arel university is a private foundation university established in 2007 by Kemal Gozukara educational foundation. This foundation has been involved in the educational process of young Turkish children since 1990s. They have established and managed pre-schools, high schools, and colleges for more than 2 decades now. In 2007, when they decided to take their mission to the next step, they already had 17 years of experience in the field of education. Nowadays, Arel university is one of the best private universities of Turkey.

The university started its educational procedure in Kucukcekme-Sefakoy campus. Later in 2010, Buyukcekme campus was established and many vocational schools and laboratories were introduced to students. Another campus has recently been established in Cevizlibag, which contains school of health sciences and faculty of medicine. All of these faculties are located in the European side of Istanbul. Some are in more central locations and some are actually in the suburban areas of the city.

The university consists of 6 faculties, 2 vocational schools and 2 institutes. It offers programs in undergraduate, graduate and PhD levels to its students. There are around 10000 students currently studying at this university and about 430 professors and researchers hired by the university.
